At SplitReady, we like you to know our pros as well as we do. We spent some time talking with Joshua Berngard, one of our SplitReady Divorce Pros to learn and share more about him and his practice about the division of property in divorce.
What made you decide to specialize in the divorce space?
A client from one of my previous jobs reached out to me because she knew I was in real estate. She and her husband were getting a divorce and she wanted to hire me to sell their home after deciding the division of their property. After the closing, I always ask for feedback. She mentioned that she really liked the way that I communicated with her and her husband during the process. She was grateful for my help and she referred me to some other divorce attorneys in her network.
What makes you unique in helping clients through a divorce?
My communication style between the couples is what makes me unique. I am in constant communication with both parties either together or separate depending on their preferences.
If they prefer that I communicate with them separately, I make videos with updates and text/email them to both clients in their own chat. That way, they are being communicated to at the same time and hearing the same information. I can then share their feedback in a separate conversation with each of them.
Having a positive experience with me can help alleviate many of the concerns that come with going through a divorce.
What is one thing clients don’t realize about you?
I love to dance! I actually was one of the Jenny Jones dancers back in the 90’s.
What is the best advice you have ever gotten – or given?
Success is rented and rent is due every month. I can’t remember who told me that but it’s great advice.
What do you wish clients knew before they took any action in their divorce?
Your home is often one of the icons of your marriage. The symbolism of selling your home is going to be hard. It’s going to be emotional and you’re going to get through it.
Keep your family and friends in the loop and try to make it as positive of an experience as you can. Because starting over is a good thing! And I can help you during every step of this process.
